Oaklawn’s second-leading owner in 2017

  • Mike Waters was among Oaklawn’s top-10 owners in 2020 with eight victories. He ended the 2019 season with seven victories. The seventh victory (Redneck Attack) marked the 100th in the Oaklawn career of trainer Ingrid Mason. The only other female trainer in Oaklawn history with more victories is Lynn Chleborad (121).
  • Waters was Oaklawn’s second-leading owner in 2017 with 11 victories from 40 starts. All 11 winners were trained by Waters’ close friend, Jack Van Berg. Waters honored Van Berg by naming a To Honor and Serve colt after the late Hall of Famer. Jack Van Berg, then trained by Van Berg’s son, Tom, made his 3-year-old debut at the 2019 Oaklawn meeting and finished second in an allowance race.
  • Waters, who owns a commercial flooring company in Seattle, started his first horse in 2016 and scored his first career stakes victory with Princessof the Nyl in the $50,000 Washington Oaks in 2018 at Emerald Downs.
  • Waters also runs horses in partnership with prominent Pacific Northwest owner Mark DeDomenico and Mason.
