Oaklawn Stakes Race Recap - $135,000 Trivista Overnight Stakes

Already a two-time winner this meet, Michael H. Eiserman’s Nerazurri collected her second overnight stakes win and gave trainer Mark Casse his ninth stakes triumph of the meeting with an easy victory in Friday’s $135,000 Trivista Overnight Stakes.

The 1 1/16-miles race for older fillies and mares was restricted to non-winners of an open stakes races, which made Nerazurri still eligible despite her win in the $135,000 Oaklawn Sports Overnight Stakes on New Year’s Day. She was coming off a second-place finish in Oaklawn’s Feb. 7 Bayakoa Stakes (G3) to stablemate Nitrogen, the champion 3-year-old filly of last year.

The 2 ¼ -length win also gave jockey Cristian Torres his third win of the day. Torres was merely a passenger Friday, as he and Nerazurri perched within a half-length of early leader Gowells Delight through a moderate pace of :48.70 seconds for the opening half-mile and 1:13.32 for the first six furlongs. She earned $81,000 for her fifth win in 15 starts to improve her career earnings to $381,088.

Without being urged, Nerazurri gained command shortly thereafter and stopped the teletimer in 1:43.76. The overwhelming 2-5 favorite, Nerazurri returned $2.60, $2.10 and $2.10. Peignoir finished second, followed by Seraphia, In Just My Heels, and Gowells Delight. Home Game, Decadent, and Rose Palace were scratched, leaving a five-horse field.
