Stakes Advance - Rainbow Miss
Compiled by Robert Yates
Although he doesn’t have an entrant, prominent Arkansas owner Harry Rosenblum still has a strong rooting interest in the $150,000 Rainbow Miss Stakes Saturday at Oaklawn.
That’s because Rosenblum bred She’s a Dreamer, among the favorites in the six-furlong race for accredited 3-year-old Arkansas-bred fillies.
“It’s good to see that a mating I did turned out to be productive,” Rosenblum said.
The Rainbow Miss headlines an 11-race card that begins at 12:40 p.m. (Central). Probable post time for the Rainbow Miss, the 10th race, is 5:35 p.m.
She’s a Dreamer (3-1 on the morning line) is seeking her third consecutive victory at the meeting for owner/trainer Terry Eoff, best known for campaigning Empire of Gold, who finished fourth behind Whitmore in the 2020 Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1).
She’s a Dreamer, in open company, finished third in her Jan. 19 career debut at Sam Houston Race Park before two sharp victories against state-breds at Oaklawn. She broke her maiden by 4 ½ lengths Feb. 2 and was a 1 ¾-length entry-level allowance winner March 15. Both races were six furlongs.
She’s a Dreamer is by Gentlemen’s Bet, a multiple stakes winner of $744,155 for Rosenblum. Gentlemen’s Bet won seven races in his career, including the Hot Springs Stakes for older sprinters in 2015 at Oaklawn, and finished third in the 2013 Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1). Bean Peaceful, an unraced daughter of War Front, is the dam of She’s a Dreamer. Rosenblum purchased Bean Peaceful for $10,000 at the 2020 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.
Rosenblum stood Gentlemen’s Bet for several years at McDowell Farm in south Arkansas before selling the stallion to Texan Michael Mazoch. Rosenblum also sold Bean Peaceful and She’s a Dreamer, but he still has a financial interest in the filly through breeder’s awards. She’s a Dreamer, in just three career starts, has already bankrolled $147,564.
“Here’s the thing,” said Rosenblum, a Little Rock, Ark., investment banker. “You get to where you’ve got so many horses, you go: ‘Do I want to raise all of these horses?’ I decided I was going to cut back. So, in this particular case, because I was the breeder and the stallion owner, I’m probably going to get 15 percent of whatever she makes and not pay any training bills. In retrospect, it might have been nice to have her in my stable right now. I’m short on horses right now.”
Erik Asmussen, the 2024 Eclipse Award winner as North America’s outstanding apprentice jockey, retains the mount on She’s a Dreamer, who drew post 8 in the nine-horse field.
Other top Rainbow Miss contenders include unbeaten Caliente Star, the 8-5 program favorite, for trainer Tammy Hornsby and Gulfstream Park invader Strong Like Sara (9-5) for trainer John Servis of Smarty Jones fame.
Rosenblum, solely or in partnership, has six career Oaklawn stakes victories as an owner, including the 2017 Hot Springs with Whitmore. Could Rosenblum have another Oaklawn stakes victory, this time as a breeder?
“I hope so,” he said.
