Racing Festival of the South Set for April 9–16

The 2016 live race meet may be winding down, but the best is yet to come with the richest purses in track history and the Racing Festival of the South, which runs Saturday, April 9 – Saturday, April 16 when it culminates with the $1 million Arkansas Derby. Last year, 65,000 fans turned out to watch eventual Triple Crown winner American Pharoah win the Arkansas Derby on his way to his historical sweep of the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont Stakes.

Barn Notes March 20: Ivan Fallunovalot Returns to Work Tab; Leads Count Fleet Works

Multiple stakes winner Ivan Fallunovalot returned to the work tab Sunday morning at Oaklawn, breezing a half-mile in :48 after the renovation break under Hall of Fame jockey Calvin Borel. The move over a fast track was the first for the gelding since he developed a quarter-crack on the inside of his left front foot late last month, and first in preparation for the $400,000 Count Fleet Sprint Handicap (G3) April 10 at Oaklawn.

CUPID BRINGS HOME SIXTH REBEL VICTORY FOR BAFFERT

Hot Springs, Ark. (Saturday, March 19, 2016) – One year after winning the Rebel Stakes with eventual Triple Crown winner American Pharoah, Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert finally returned with the right horse after two unsuccessful trips earlier this season and won the $900,000 race with Coolmore’s Cupid. Overall, it was Baffert’s sixth victory in the race since 2010. His other winners were champion Lookin at Lucky, Secret Circle, The Factor and Hoppertunity.
