Four-Day Opening Weekend Kicks Off Oaklawn's 2012 Season

In Arkansas, there are five seasons – Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall and the Oaklawn live meet, which is set to start Friday, Jan. 13 with the aptly named $75,000 Fifth Season Stakes. Oaklawn Reduces Minimum on Three Popular Wagers

In advance of the start of its 2012 live race meet Jan. 13, Oaklawn has reduced the minimum bet for the Pick 3, Pick 4 and Classix wager. The Pick 3 and Pick 4 will both have a 50-cent minimum, while the Classix, a Pick 6 wager, is going from $2 to $1. Read More

Remington’s Springboard Mile Figures to be Key Oaklawn Prep

Saturday’s $300,000 Springboard Mile at Remington Park figures to once again live up to its name with 10 of the 12 horses entered coming from barns headed to Hot Springs. Last year, three horses used this Remington race as a “springboard” into the Smarty Jones Stakes, the first in Oaklawn’s rich 3-year-old series, scheduled for Jan. 16, 2012. Caleb’s Posse rebounded from a poor race at Remington to win the Smarty Jones and the Donnie K. Von Hemel trainee went on to finish second in Oaklawn’s Rebel Stakes before collecting two Grade 1 victories – the King’s Bishop at Saratoga in August and the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile in November at Churchill. Jackpot Records Keep Falling at Oaklawn

One day after a Jacksonville, AR woman won $81,640 playing a $.25 Wheel of Fortune machine, another woman became a $100,000 richer after winning the Grand Prize in Grillin’ and Chillin’ Tailgate Spectacular. The winner, Nancy Epstein of Hot Springs, was one of three people selected to play for the Grand Prize, a record for Oaklawn, after a series of drawings held throughout the evening. Read More
