Always in a Tiz and new rider Calvin Borel, who won the 5,000th race of his career Thursday, got a feel for each other in advance of the $600,000 Rebel Stakes (G2) March 16 with an easy half mile workout in 48 3/5 Saturday. The Tiznow colt will be attempting to redeem himself after a troubled third in the Jan. 21 Smarty Jones Stakes as the favorite and a fifth-place finish in the Feb. 18 Southwest Stakes in which he exited the race with a lung infection. Last year, Charles Cella’s Cyber Secret was the hot horse after a 5 1/4-length victory in an allowance, which led to starts in both the Southwest (G3) and Rebel (G2) stakes where he was fifth both times. Flash Forward to 2013 and he is once again the “now” horse heading into Saturday’s $150,000 Razorback Handicap (G3) with two impressive allowance wins over the track this meet. Gazebo Stakes Victory Makes Three On Day For Jockey Santana Jr.

No jockey has been hotter as of late than Ricardo Santana Jr., who has won six races, including $60,000 Gazebo Stakes with King Henny. The six victories, three Friday and three Saturday, moved Santana Jr. into first place in the jockey standings with 27 wins, three more than Robby Albarado, who had been the leader since opening day.
