Oaklawn-raced 3-year-olds Untrapped and Colonelsdarktemper are among the 11 horses entered in Saturday’s $500,000 Indiana Derby (G3), while Northern Spur Stakes winner Cistron has been entered in the $200,000 Los Alamitos Derby; Several Oaklawn-raced horses are entered in undercard stakes at Indiana Grand Saturday, including Arkansas-bred Dutch Parrot, who will start in the $200,000 Indiana Oaks (G3). 

 

Oaklawn Raced 3-Year-Olds Busy on Both Coasts

 

Three Oaklawn-raced 3-year-olds are scheduled to run Saturday in major events at Indiana Grand and Los Alamitos, with the $500,000 Indiana Derby (G3) at Indiana Grand drawing a field of 11, including Untrapped and Colonelsdarktemper.

 

Untrapped ran twice at Oaklawn, finishing third in the $900,000 Rebel Stakes (G2) March 18 and sixth in the $1 million Arkansas Derby (G1) April 15. After finishing 12th in the Kentucky Derby, Untrapped ran third in his last start, the $500,000 Ohio Derby (G3) June 24 at Thistledown. He will be cutting back from 1 1/8 miles to 1 1/16 miles Saturday for owner Mike Langford of Jonesboro, Ark., and Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen, who has topped the Oaklawn standings eight times since 2007.

 

Untrapped, the 6-1 second choice on the morning line, is scheduled to break from post 9 under Ricardo Santana Jr. and carry 117 pounds. Santana has been Oaklawn’s leading rider the last five years.

 

Scheduled to break from post 10 is Colonelsdarktemper, who won his Feb. 18 career debut in Hot Springs for trainer Jinks Fires and auto racing legend A.J. Foyt. Colonelsdarktemper (10-1) ran fourth in the $150,000 Northern Spur Stakes April 15 at Oaklawn and second in his last start, the $100,000 Matt Winn Stakes (G3) June 17 at Churchill Downs. Fires’ son-in-law, Jon Court, is named to ride Saturday.

 

Ohio Derby and Blue Grass winner Irap is the 8-5 program favorite for the Indiana Derby, which goes as race 9 and has a probable post time of 8:49 p.m. (Central).

 

Los Alamitos’ eight-race card is highlighted by the $200,000 Los Alamitos Derby (G3) at 1 1/8 miles where Northern Spur winner Cistron is scheduled to break from post 2 under Tyler Baze and carry 122 pounds. Cistron returns to the main track after finishing third in the $500,000 Penn Mile Stakes (G2) June 3 at Penn National.

 

Probable post time for the Los Alamitos Derby, which goes as race 7, is 6:58 p.m. (Central).

 

Indy 500

 

Several other Oaklawn-raced horses are entered Saturday at Indiana Grand, which features six stakes races, highlighted by the $500,000 Indiana Derby (G3).

 

Among the fillies and mares entered in the $100,000 Mari Hulman George Stakes at 1 1/16 miles are Cced, Big World and Tiger Moth.

 

Cced was an allowance/optional claiming winner at the 2016 Oaklawn meeting. Big World won an allowance/optional claimer March 30 at Oaklawn before capturing the $300,000 La Troienne Stakes (G1) May 5 at Churchill Downs.

 

Tiger Moth ran three times this year at Oaklawn, winning a Jan. 22 allowance/optional claimer before finishing third in the $350,000 Azeri Stakes (G2) March 18 and fourth in the $600,000 Apple Blossom Handicap (G1) April 14.

 

Big World, who will be ridden by Santana, is the 2-1 program favorite. Probable post time for the Mari Hulman, which goes as race 6, is 7:25 p.m. (Central).

 

Arkansas-bred Dutch Parrot is among eight horses entered in the $200,000 Indiana Oaks (G3) at 1 1/16 miles. She broke her maiden Jan. 15 at Oaklawn before finishing eighth in the track’s biggest event for 3-year-old fillies, the $400,000 Fantasy Stakes (G3) April 14.

 

Probable post time for the Indiana Oaks, which goes as race 8, is 8:21 p.m. (Central).

Multiple Oaklawn stakes winner Marquee Miss is entered in an allowance sprint Saturday at Ellis Park. … Miss Mo Kelly, who ran three times this year at Oaklawn, including a sixth in the $350,000 Azeri Stakes (G2) for older fillies and mares March 18, is entered against champion Songbird in the $750,000 Delaware Handicap (G1) at 1 ¼ miles Saturday at Delaware Park. … Oaklawn-raced Ain’t Got Time and Adirondack King are entered in the $50,000 Carl Hanford Memorial Stakes at 1 1/16 miles Saturday at Delaware Park. … Oaklawn-raced Abraham is entered in the $100,000 Michael G. Schaefer Stakes at a mile and 70 yards Saturday at Indiana Grand.
