HOT SPRINGS, AR (Sunday, March 30, 2014) – Sunset Stable’s Sea N Suds came flying late to win Sunday’s $75,000 Rainbow Stakes by a neck over Devilishly Clever in just his third career start.

Jockey Glen Corbett settled Sea N Sud behind horses as the favorite He is a Roadster grabbed the early lead through fractions of :22 1/5 and :46 for the first half mile. Devilishly Clever took over as the field entered the stretch, but could not hold off the fast closing winner, who began to gobble up the ground once he was moved to the outside from his original position along the rail. The early leader held on for third. The winning time was 1:12 for six furlongs over a fast track.

“We thought he would run well and he did,” said winning trainer Kelly Von Hemel. “He’s gotten better each time we’ve run him and he’s gotten stronger and stronger each time we’ve worked him.”

Sea N Suds, by Primary Suspect out of Miss Brown Eyes, was bred by his owner, who had also raced the dam with Von Hemel. The colt has now won two of three starts and earned $80,850.  He returned $10, $4.80 and $2.80 at odds of 4-1.

Live racing resumes at Oaklawn Thursday at 1:30 p.m. with a nine-race card.
