HOT SPRINGS, AR (Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013) – Sanders Brothers’ All About Allie continued her dominance over the Arkansas-bred fillies and mares with her third win in the $60,000 Downthedustyroad Breeders’ Stakes, a race named in honor of the only Arkansas-bred female to win a Grade 1 stakes. Overall, it was her fourth stakes triumph at Oaklawn since 2011.
Confidently ridden by regular rider Cliff Berry, the heavy 4-to-5 favorite sat behind Bikini Bella and Hatter Nu Nu through an opening half mile in 47 2/5 before unleashing her bid in the stretch. All About Allie gobbled up ground late and drove well clear to win by 2 ¾ lengths over her late closing stablemate Kathleen. Her winning time for the six-furlong race was 1:13 1/5 over a fast track.
Hatter Nu Nu held on for third and was followed by Bikini Bella and Awesome Truth. Bag the Storm and Ile St. Mary were scratched.
“That was fun,” said winning trainer David Whited. “I was really confident in her today. She’s a big, strong filly and has really blossomed here the last few months. When she competes, she gives you everything she has.”
All About Allie, by Storm and a Half, improved her lifetime record to 8-4-2 in 21 starts and has now earned $301,281. Although she is still missing an open stakes victory on her resume, the winnings from today’s race did put her above Downthedustyroad, who earned $291,708 in her career.
All About Allie returned $3.60, $2.80 and $2.10.
Live racing resumes Sunday with a 1:30 p.m. first post. The feature race will be the $60,000 Nodouble Breeders’ Stakes for Arkansas-bred males going six furlongs.
