The Arkansas Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators honored Oaklawn Park’s longtime track announcer and Director of Media Relations Terry Wallace during their annual Bronze Quill Awards ceremony on Tuesday in Little Rock. Wallace was presented with the John K. Woodruff Award for Lifetime Achievement. Additionally, dozens of awards were presented to recognize excellence in the fields of communications, marketing and public relations.
“The Bronze Quill Awards allow us to recognize the best work in terms of creativity and execution in the field of business communication,” said Ashli Ahrens, 2010 president of IABC/Arkansas. “In addition to celebrating the Bronze Quill winners, it [was] especially rewarding to honor Terry Wallace for his significant accomplishments and his position as one of the nation’s pre-eminent horse racing communications professionals.”
Wallace, often called “the most familiar voice in Arkansas,” hasn’t missed calling a race since coming to Oaklawn Park in 1975 and received extensive national publicity when he provided the live description for his 20,000th consecutive race on March 25. Wallace also serves as the venerable Hot Springs racetrack’s director of media relations and provides track attendees – and audiences viewing Oaklawn’s simulcast races around the world – his selections before every Oaklawn race.
