- He got the 2012 meet off to a fast start by winning the Smarty Jones with Junebugred on day four and never looked back. He finished with 21 victories that also included a win by stable star Tiz Miz Sue in the Azeri and Devil and a Half’s score in the Arkansas’ Breeders’.
- Tiz Miz Sue, who is expected back in 2013 at age six, almost pulled off a major upset in the 2012 Delaware Handicap when she came within a neck of champion Royal Delta.
- Won the Grade 1 Sword Dancer at Saratoga with Telling in both 2009 and ‘10.
- Grew up in Colorado where his father, Gerald, was a trainer at the now defunct Centennial Race Track just outside Denver. A jockey in his youth, Hobby turned to training in 1976.
- Hobby’s wife, Metzie, is his assistant and daughter, Karie, is a manager in Oaklawn’s Food & Beverage department. Another important member of his team is Chindi, a multiple stakes winner who raced until age 12 and now serves as his stable pony.
