  • Earned the 1,000th win of his training career on March 1, 2013 when Ruthless Empire won the 7th race at Oaklawn as the 4-5 favorite. 
  • Tiz Miz Sue defended her title in the Grade 3 Azeri Stakes in 2013 and went on to impress New Yorkers when she won the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps Handicap at Belmont by a half-length. The star of the Hobby Stable was retired late in the summer of ‘13 after earning more $1.1 million dollars in her career. 
  • Won the Grade 1 Sword Dancer at Saratoga with Telling in both 2009 and ‘10.
  • Grew up in Colorado where his father, Gerald, was a trainer at the now defunct Centennial Race Track just outside Denver. A jockey in his youth, Hobby turned to training in 1976.
  • Hobby’s wife, Metzie, is his assistant and daughter, Karie, is a manager in Oaklawn’s Food & Beverage department. Another important member of his team is Chindi, a multiple stakes winner who raced until age 12 and now serves as his stable pony.
