•    Norberto Arroyo Jr. made a great first impression with the Oaklawn fans, winning four races opening day, his first time riding in Hot Springs.
•    The Puerto Rico native, comes from an athletic family. His father, Norberto Sr., was a boxer and former sparring partner of champion Roberto Duran, and his uncle, Enrique, was a jockey and now trains. Norberto Jr. was mentored by Hall of Fame jockey Angel Cordero Jr.
•    Arroyo Jr. got his start at Rockingham Park in 1999 and made his first trip the winner’s circle with his third mount, Iron Lady. From there, his career began to skyrocket. He was a finalist for the Eclipse Award as Champion Apprentice in 2000 and was the leading rider in New York that year.
•    After being a mainstay in New York and overcoming personal difficulties, he rejuvenated his career in 2012 at Turfway Park in Kentucky where he earned the leading rider title for the 2012 Holiday Meet and 2013 Winter-Spring Meet. He also collected his 1,000th career victory in Dec. 2012 at Turfway aboard Mac the Man.
•    To date, the biggest win of his career came aboard New York Hero in the 2003 $500,000 Lane’s End Stakes (now Spiral Stakes ) at Turfway. Overall, he has won 69 stakes, including 14 graded stakes.
