MCLEAN “MAC” ROBERTSON
Born: 04/10/74, Schuyler, Nebraska
Resides: Schuyler, Nebraska
Family: Wife Cyndi
From a training family, Mac Robertson is the son of Chicago-based Hugh Robertson and grew up working on his parents Pennsylvania farm. He attended the University of Nebraska, but gave it up to work at the track.
Robertson started out on smaller circuits and developed into a perennial leader at Canterbury Park winning his eighth title there in 2011. His success in Minnesota has helped him improve at Oaklawn incrementally in recent years and he now also takes a division to Delaware Park and competes is major races along the Mid-Atlantic region. After finishing the 2010 Oaklawn meet in a tie for second in the trainer standings, he enjoyed similar success in 2011, winning 20 races for third in the standings.
Win Willy, who upset the 2009 Rebel Stakes (G2), was once again the star of Robertson’s stable, kicking off the 2011 meet with a victory in the Jan. 16 Fifth Season Stakes. That race was followed by a second in the Essex Handicap and a third in the Razorback Handicap before his crowd-pleasing triumph in the $350,000 Oaklawn Handicap (G2). The popular gray is expected back in 2012 and another horse to watch from Robertson’s barn is the talented filly Bryan’s Jewel.
