  • Kenny Smith, a third generation trainer, has been a mainstay here at Oaklawn for quite some time. His grandfather trained and his father still trains.
  • Smith won his first race at the memorable Ak-Sar-Ben Race track located in Omaha, Nebraska in 1972 with a horse named Friendly Son.  
  • To date his most memorable horse is Silver Goblin who finished third in the 1994 Arkansas Derby and came back the following year to win the Essex and Razorback Handicaps.  Silver Goblin also finished second to Horse of the Year Cigar in a memorable running of the Oaklawn Handicap that year. Another top runner was Roythelittleone, who won the Hot Springs Stakes and was second in the Count Fleet Sprint Handicap in 1996.    
  • Smith has trained for numerous owners; Al Horton who owned Silver Goblin, James Glover, who teamed with Smith to sweep the 2013 Rainbow and Rainbow Miss Stakes, and Roy Davis for whom he trained Roythelittleone.  His other big owner is Dream Walkin’ Farms, LLC (Toby Covel) aka Toby Keith the country music musician.
