A three-time leading trainer at Oaklawn Park, Kenny P. Smith is poised to have another successful meet in 2012 thanks in part to leading 3-year-old Reckless Jerry, owned by country music sensation Toby Keith’s Dream Walkin Farms. Reckless Jerry placed second in the $100,000 Smarty Jones Stakes opening weekend and is on target for the Arkansas Derby trail.

Smith and trainer Gary Hartlage became a part of Oaklawn history in 1997 when they shared the training championship with 26 winners a piece. A year later he won the title outright and repeated that feat again in 1999.

Among Smith’s best Oaklawn runners were Temperance Time, Sweet and Ready, Fair and Lovely, Roythelittleone, Turn to the Queen and Eagle’s Wings.

Smith is probably best recognized as the trainer of fan favorite Silver Goblin, who won the 1995 Essex and Razorback Handicaps before finishing second to that year’s Horse of the Year, Cigar, in the Oaklawn Handicap.
