  • Among his top horses in 2013 was older mare She’s All In, who had several top stakes placings before finally winning the Oklahoma Classics Distaff Stakes.  After finishing second in Oaklawn’s  Bayakoa Stakes, she finished third in the Grade 2 Fleur de Lis Handicap and was second to Champion Royal Delta in the Grade 1 Delaware Handicap.  Also won stakes with Eye Love Jeanie and Chuck.
  • Recent stars were Caleb’s Posse, winner of the 2011 King’s Bishop and Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile and Alternation, winner 2011 Peter Pan Stakes and five stakes in 2012, including Oaklawn Handicap and Pimlico Special.
  • From one of racing’s most recognizable families, Donnie and his brother, Kelly, are the sons of longtime Midwestern trainer and Nebraska Hall of Famer, Don Von Hemel.
  • He graduated from Fort Hayes State University with an accounting degree, but went into the family business in 1984. He won his first training title at Louisiana Downs in 1988 and began a run of dominance at Remington that includes his induction in their Hall of Fame in 1998.
  • Other top horses he has trained over the years include Clever Trevor, Mariah’s Storm, Evansville Slew, Custer, Leave a Legacy, Queen’s Gray Bee, Explosive Girl, Mr. Ross and Bien Nicole.
