ALLEN MILLIGAN
Born: 07/07/1964, Celina, Texas
Resides: Arlington, Texas
- Oaklawn’s leading trainer in 2009, Milligan has had to settle for second the last two years. In 2012, he was in a tight race with Steve Asmussen until closing day when he finished with 32 wins to Asmussen’s 36.
- Milligan is a third generation horseman. His father, the late Eddie Milligan, Sr., trained at Oaklawn and his brother, Eddie, Jr., operates a training center in Athens, Texas.
- Like his father, Milligan also learned the ropes from trainer Frankie Brothers and spent five years working as his assistant before going out on his own. His first winner was Victory Flyer in 1988 at Churchill Downs.
- Top horses in his care in recent years include stakes winners Lady Giacamo, Bella Diamante, his first Kentucky Oaks (G1) starter in 2010 and Jake Mo, who competed in all four of Oaklawn’s 3-year-old stakes. His best finish was a second in the Southwest Stakes.
