- Borel joined an elite group of riders when he won the 5,000th race of his career March 7, 2013 at Oaklawn aboard Hezunusal. Later in the year, he was inducted into Thoroughbred Racing’s Hall of Fame. He also hit his 4,000-win (Feb. 16, 2005) and 3,000-win (March 25, 1999) milestones at Oaklawn.
- He was inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in 2011.
- Borel, a two-time-riding champ at Oaklawn, has had unprecedented success in the Kentucky Derby, winning the race three times in four years between 2007 and 2010, including with 2010 Arkansas Derby runner-up Super Saver. A run matched only by riding great Eddie Arcaro. His streak started with Street Sense and two years later he became a household name by riding Mine That Bird to victory in the 2009 Derby, but then sticking with eventual Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra in the Preakness two weeks later.
- Borel grew up in Louisiana Cajun country and started riding at bush tracks as a child. He reached the highest echelons of racing with a fearless and aggressive riding style – earning the nickname “Bo-rail” for his courage taking horses through tight spots along the inside.
