“I grew up in Minnesota and was into show horses and dressage. Even then, I knew that some day, I wanted to be a race rider, “Jenna Joubert chatted between races in Oaklawn’s jockey room.
During her four years of college at the University of Oklahoma, she galloped and worked horses mornings, usually at Remington Park.
Joubert, an apprentice rider, is a career winner of 12 races. She rode her first career winner in June 2007 at Canterbury Downs.
“An apprenticeship doesn’t begin until the fifth winner, which in my case came at Hoosier Park, October 5. 2007,” she said.
Joubert advised that she had watched old films of Eddie Arcaro and read his book. “I have watched Julien Leparoux a lot, she noted. “There are certain riders I study. I am always looking for pointers,” she said.
Joubert insists she has received a lot of advice since deciding tobecome a jockey.
“The two main items are keep trying hard and don’t ever give up,”she smiled, adding, “You don’t know who you are until you see what you can do.”
“I want to ride, ride, ride. I intend to ride at an afternoon track, get in my car and drive to a track where there in night racing. I want to ride nights as well as afternoons. All I’m seeking now is a chance,” she explained.
