Lookin At Lucky, Super Saver Carry Oaklawn Banner in Sunday's Haskell
Tuesday, July 27, 2010

Only a year ago the big story for the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth was that Calvin Borel had taken the mount on Fantasy and Kentucky Oaks winner Rachel Alexandra over Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird. When Calvin and his mount, the eventual Horse-of-the-Year, Rachel Alexandra, beat her male rivals in the mile-and-an-eighth feature on that day, it went a long way to her gaining the championship title.
This year's Haskell, on Sunday, August 1, give some others with Oaklawn in their backgrounds a chance to make the big headlines as the end of the day. Featured in the…

On Saturday Humble Smarty made up for that loss in a big way as he stormed from just off the pace to take a three-quarters lengths victory in the Claiming Crown Rapid Transit Stakes at Canterbury Park. The Rapid Transit was one of a series of events offered for claiming horses in the annual program staged at the Minnesota track.

Blind Luck Scores Thrilling Win in Delaware Oaks
Saturday, July 10, 2010

At the midpoint of the stretch run in Saturday's feaured $250,000 Delaware Oaks, the outlook was somewhat bleak for Fantasy Stakes and Kentucky Oaks winner, Blind Luck. However her will to win took over and the potential champion three-year-old filly doggedly pursued Havre de Grace and narrowly edged her rival to continue her relentless charge toward a divisional championship .
The mile-and-a-sixteenth outing was raced over a sealed, but sloppy, track, which was unlikely to assist the late-runningdaughter of Pollard's Vision, but her inherent class made up the difference. Coupled with new rider, Joel Rosario, for the first time,…

Steve Asmussen, who has dominated as leading trainer at Oaklawn and across the country during the past decade, may have unleashed another superstar this week in his two-year-old Kantharos, a stablemate of Rachel Alexandra.
Kantharos moved to the head of the class in the two-year-old ranks with his nine-and-a-half lengths win in Saturday's featured $108,200 Bashford Manor Stakes at six furlongs. Under Robby Albarado the talented son of Lion Heart overcame a bobble at the start to overhaul the pacesetters and take command as he pleased at the head of the stretch. Majesticperfection Sparkles in Iowa Sprint Handicap
Saturday, June 26, 2010

While most of the attention for trainer Steve Asmussen over the past two seasons has been concerning the superstar runners Rachel Alexandra and Curlin, suddenly the leading Oaklawn trainer has caught the nation by surprise with his latest superstar, sprinter Majesticperfection, wearing the silks of the Padua Stable in the Iowa Sprint Handicap at Prairie Meadows.
With just one start this year, in February at the Fair Grounds, the four-year-old son of Harlan's Holiday suddenly appeared in allowance company at Oaklawn on April 1 and proved to be no April Fool's joke. A slight favorite on the afternoon, he…
